Submitting a claim

It is best to have the following handy before filing a claim:

• Policy holder’s name

• Policy number (if available)

• The date the accident or claim occurred

• A description of what happened

• Any police reports or documentation from the accident

• Photos of the damage (if available) 

Auto

1. Call the police to file a car accident report.

2. Get the following information from all parties involved: names, addresses, phone numbers, insurance information, VIN, and license plates

3. Look for witnesses who would be willing to testify their account of the accident and record their names and phone numbers.

Homeowners & Renters

1. If you have experienced theft, vandalism, or burglary, report it to the police. Get a police report and the names of the officers that you speak with.

2. Take reasonable steps to protect your property from further damage.

3. Take photos or videos and document all damaged property. Try not to discard any damaged property in case a claims adjuster needs to review it.

5. File a claim with your insurance company online or over the phone. Ask them how you will be reimbursed.

6. Keep records and receipts of any out-of-pocket expenses due to the damage, such as replacing damaged property and additional living expenses.
